Neolithic Pie Makers

Polisher Stone (Nr Avebury, Wiltshire)

The above photograph is of a Sarsen Stone that can be found on the Marlborough Downs Near Avebury.

You may be wondering, what has this got to do with pies, well read on....

On the left hand side of the stone you can see a depression (light coloured area), to the right of this there are some grooves running vertically down the stone.  This stone was used by Neolithic man (the builders of Avebury henge) to sharpen his tools.  The very same tools that would have been used to kill his Neolithic pie filling.
